Zion NP Utah September 2015
Hiking “The Narrows” was the Zion highlight . A spectacular canyon hike with towering sheer walls rising up on both sides. For most of the hike you are in the cold water of the Virgin river on slippery rocks. It feels strange at first but you quickly get used to hiking in the water. I recommend you rent the Canyoneering water shoes widely available at the local shops. You will also need a trekking pole or walking stick for stability in the water.
The trail up to Observation Point is another awe inspiring hike. At the summit you are looking down on Angel’s Landing. Amazing views of Zion Canyon on all sides. It is also strenuous (2000 Ft elevation gain) with some exposure to drop offs.
Our stay at the La Quinta Inn in Springdale was very nice. Pricey but all the hotels in Springdale seem to book up in September, a popular time at Zion. Some of our favorite eating spots were The Spotted Dog Café and Zion Pizza and Noodle. Deep Creek coffee is good too. Zion National Park is a magical place. Do some star gazing at night!
